Anyone agrees that the purpose of life is to will one entity, individual or group, to power?

One can observe across all animal species and conclude that life is a perpetual strife towards increasing one's proportion in energy consumption. Life does not seem to discriminate between the self from the other, at least within the same species. For example, why would one bacterium wanna reproduce after consuming a fixed amount of energy when it could keep it all for itself and continue growing? Even if death helps to maintain the quality of the species, why would it matter to an individual organism?
