Question about the umbilical..?

my boyfriend recently got stabbed in his abdomen and when we went to the doctors again today, the nurse said something about the knife going toward the umbilical..but i thought that was the cord that is connected to the baby when its born..so im confused, i guess i wanna know what he was talking about when he said that. do we still have that even after we're born n stuff??
