Does the length of the cycle influence its importance to ecology? For example, the carbon cycle right now seems to be overloaded with the carbon dioxide humans are putting into the air. Is the fact that the carbon cycle takes only a few years to run make fixing the greenhouse gas problem more urgent than soil erosion or earthquake prediction, which are problems with the rock cycle?
